Salt Creek Estates is a small community located on the northeast side of Lake Monroe. Often referred to as one of Indiana's best kept secrets, the community is comprised of residences and vacation homes for regional business leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs and nature lovers.

Lake Monroe is Indiana's largest reservoir located about 10 miles southeast of Bloomington, Indiana. Constructed from 1960 to 1965, the lake is surrounded by protected forests and Indiana's only federally protected U.S. Wilderness Area. This setting provides residents of Salt Creek Estates with exceptional outdoor experiences and some of the best nature viewing in the state.

Salt Creek Estates was the vision of Indianapolis businessman August "Bud" Hook of Hook's Drug Stores, an Indianapolis based drug store chain which was founded in 1900. In 1961, Bud assembled a group of prominent Indianapolis area businessman to invest in land adjacent to the new reservoir and build weekend homes for rest and relaxation from the pressures of corporate life. By the early 1970s, the community was essentially complete with roads, its own water tower, water treatment facility, sewer system, wastewater treatment plant as well as a community boat dock.
